PhD Project: Development of High Efficiency Continuous-Wave Multi-Beam Ce:Nd:YAG/Tm:Nd:YAG Solar-Pumped Laser
Resume:
Solar-pumped laser uses free solar energy for pumping an active medium, directly converting incoherent solar radiation into coherent laser radiation. It can be considered as one of the most promising technologies in renewable energy and laser technology research, being especially suited for space-based applications, such as free space optical communications, space solar power transmission.
In this Ph.D. research program, the development of a high efficiency continuous-wave multi-beam Ce:Nd:YAG/Tm:Nd:YAG solar-pumped laser is proposed. All the design parameters of prototypes with several laser rods in a single pump cavity will be optimized through ZEMAX software. The laser output performance with resonator parameters will be optimized through LASCAD software. Multi-rod Ce:Nd:YAG laser heads will be designed, built and experimentally optimized in TEMoo-mode and multimode regimes. The laser performance of rods with different doping concentration of Ce3+ (0.05-2.0 at.%) will be experimentally investigated.
