PhD Thesis: "Improving the efficiency and targeting of radiosensitisers" (2016-2020)

This project will examine two methods to improve the efficiency of radiosensisation:
1) developing oxygen adsorbing nanomaterials to maintain a shell of oxygen in the vicinity of the nanoparticle, so that this can be more readily converted into damaging reactive oxygen species following irradiation.
2) developing DNA-‐targeting oligonucleotide-‐based nanomaterials, to bring radiosensitisers and genomic DNA into closer proximity during irradiation. The exact balance of which of these two projects takes priority will depend on pilot experiments currently underway.
