I obtained my PhD degree in 2012 under the MIT-Portugal Program in Bioengineering by Instituto Superior Técnico. I started working in the solar laser field since 2014 to explore the renewable Mg recovery from MgO using the solar furnace and solar lasers. The combination of laser physics with renewable solar energy has become the focus of my research career, involving the improvement of both solar-to-laser conversion efficiency and output beam quality of solar-pumped lasers. On the way to increase efficiency, I am strongly fascinated by new laser materials: the pioneer discover of Ce:Nd:YAG in solar lasers as an alternative to the common Nd:YAG and Cr:Nd:YAG media had a great impact on my career path.
