At the general assembly held on March 16, 2026, at the Instituto Pedro Nunes in Coimbra, Prof. Filipe Ferreira da Silva was elected President of the Portuguese Vacuum Society (SOPORVAC) for the 2026–2028 term. The new governing bodies also include Dr. Ana Fonseca as President of the General Assembly, Dr. Mónica Mendes as Secretary of the General Assembly, Prof. João Ameixa as President of the Supervisory Board, and Prof. Nenad Bundaleski as Board Member, all integrated members of CEFITEC.
The "VÁCUO Workshop 2026" will take place on March 16, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM, at the Auditorium of Instituto Pedro Nunes in Coimbra, bringing together specialists to discuss vacuum technology, materials synthesis, deposition methods, and characterization techniques. Abstracts accepted until March 9.
The study Revisiting CN⁻ Formation Mechanisms in Electron Collisions with Benzonitrile has been selected for the front cover of ChemPhysChem. The research work was first authored by Rodrigo Rodrigues, PhD student in the RaBBiT program at CEFITEC, and co-authored by the CEFITEC researchers Mónica Mendes, João Ameixa, and Filipe Ferreira da Silva.
On January 21, 2026, at 2:30 PM, Dr. Elisa Sani, Senior Researcher at National Institute of Optics, National Research Council of Italy (INO-CNR), will present a seminar entitled "Novel materials for sunlight absorption and energy transfer". On January 20 at 2 PM, our PhD student Hugo Costa will defend his PhD thesis entitled "Advances In Multirod Solar-Pumped Laser Technology". The defense will take place in the Academic Acts Room, Building IV.
On January 19, 2026, at 2:30 PM, Professor Juna Sathian, Associate Professor and Deputy Lead of the Photonics Technology Group at Northumbria University, will present a seminar entitled "Advances in Room-Temperature Solid-State Masers: From Fundamental Physics to Practical Quantum Technologies." The recent research “Key Spectroscopic Features of Pyrazine Lowest-Lying ¹B₁u and ¹B₂u States”, published in Chemical Physics Letters and authored by Professor Paulo Limão-Vieira together with co-workers from Brazil and Denmark, earned Editor’s Choice recognition as volume front page, reserved to articles of exceptional scientific impact.
The International Meeting "The Future of Portuguese Science at Large-Scale Research Infrastructure beyond NEPHEWS Project" aims to discuss the perspectives of scientists and engineers of large-scale research facilities beyond NEPHEWS project. Registration and abstract submission are open.
