PhD Project: Monte Carlo Microdosimetry for Alpha Particle Therapy: Advancing Precision Dosimetry for Next-Generation Radiopharmaceutical Treatments


Resume: 


This project aims to develop a validated and standardized Monte Carlo microdosimetry framework capable of accurately predicting microscopic energy deposition and radiobiological effects in targeted alpha therapy. Because alpha-emitting radiopharmaceuticals produce highly localized and stochastic energy deposition, conventional macrodosimetry fails to represent the true dose delivered at cellular and subcellular scales. To address this limitation, the project will use track-structure Monte Carlo toolkitsto model realistic biological geometries and simulate clinically relevant alpha emitters. Microdosimetric spectra including lineal and specific energy distributions will be generated under heterogeneous radionuclide uptake scenarios to quantify dose variability and its biological implications. The framework will be validated through comparisons with published experimental microdosimetry data, cross-code benchmarking, and uncertainty analysis. Expected outcomes include a harmonized microdosimetry workflow, improved links between microdosimetric metrics and radiobiological endpoints, and practical guidance to support the optimization and clinical translation of next-generation alpha-particle radiopharmaceuticals.
